There is a road, no simple highway, between the dawn and the dark of night, and if you go no one may follow, that path is for your steps alone. Ripple in still water, when there is no pebble tossed, nor wind to blow.

To seek the sacred river Alph, to walk the caves of ice, to break my fast on honey dew and drink the milk of paradise... I had heard the whispered tales of immortality, the deepest mystery, from an ancient book I took a clue.

For those that are interested in purchasing one of these lovely decks, Sarah Thomas now has her Modern Hanafuda decks available for purchase from her store website. The cards are printed with a linen finish and manufactured by Pandagm. They are $24.99 per deck plus shipping. Here is the link;

Here is a sample of April with a set of traditional Hanafuda cards so you can see how much larger the Modern Hanafuda sets are;

Haven't tried to sleeve my cards, but the card height is 4.5 inches and the width is 2 5/16 inches.

I don't even know if the receiver of the gift will care if they are sleeved or not. But good lord they are so beautiful--I would be scared to play with them.

It is like the first performance of Strauss' Emperor Waltz. So beautiful that the people in the crowd stopped dancing and just stood there, listening.

Or was it The Artist's Life? I can never remember the details, but you get the point. These cards are almost too beautiful to be "components."

Would not argue with you about that. Planning on framing a set, each month in a nice long frame or maybe a couple of frames.

Joe - Did you ever get around to framing your set? Would love to see a photo if you have one.

Sarah,
Hello and so sorry for not seeing this post until now...Yikes! Two years later! Unfortunately, framing these cards proved to be more challenging than my actual framing skills would allow and I could never create a look and a stable enough environment to properly frame these cards in the way they truly deserve!

I think these are the most beautiful deck of cards I own and grateful I was able to acquire a copy!

Does anyone know where to find this version now? The shop is down and not working anymore, there's no contact info for Sarah there and she has not logged on here for almost two years.

Modern Hanafuda, Closing Shop

Posted by Sarah

Hello my lovely mustachioed backers!

I hope this message finds you well. I realized the other day that it had been over two years since I started drawing pictures for my Modern Hanafuda cards and boy! has the time flown by! However, like all good things, Modern Hanafuda, in its current rendition, is coming to an end.

That's right! Our initial Kickstarter stock is running low and I have decided not to reprint a second edition. For collectors, your decks just got a little more collectible (especially those signed copies). For people who still play Koi Koi, you might shuffle your decks a little more gingerly in the coming months.

I had a great run these past couple years and I have gained invaluable knowledge about manufacturing, shipment, business, customer relations, taxes, etc. But, I know none of that knowledge and learning would have happened without your pledges. It's hard to explain how much your support helped me along the way, but it really did and I want to say, one last time:
THANK YOU.

So, consider this your official heads up! If you'd like to grab one more deck or perhaps send a copy to a friend or family member this holiday, you can still purchase a deck through my Shopify store: http://store.modernhanafuda.net/ The remaining decks will be first come, first serve. The store's last day will be October 31st, 2014 and will be closed, for the foreseeable future, on November 1st, 2014.

Thank you again to each and everyone one of you for your support these past couple years. A toast to your gracious support and to your future endeavors! Hopefully in two more years time, you will still be playing a game or two of Koi Koi.

Best,

Sarah

I absolutely love her cards and wish all the best in all that she does.

Yes that's exactly the problem

I tried writing her on Kickstarter but no luck there either. I'd really really like a copy of her stunning set
