I've been posting updates to a game we're playing on Vassal.

Once we came out of our turkey induced comas we came to the realization that we'd screwed-up the LOC Vichy rules pretty badly and that it was having an impact on the game at the strategic level. So we made the monumental decision to go back to a saved game which is at the end of M-A '40 which is when France surrendered.

For those not familiar with the LOC Vichy Rules we find them to be a very nice addition to the game. Basically the French get "negotiating points" for staying alive and winning or tieing battles. The Germans/Italians get points for winning battles and taking cities. The "wild card" is Paris. If the Axis physically take the city then they get a huge bump in "negotiating points". Whereas if the French declare it an open city then there is no real benefit to either side, but French fighting capability is greatly reduced. In short it creates a situation where there comes a time when the French player must throw in the towel or the Vichy negotiations will go very badly (the Axis will get great advantages in describing what Vichy looks like).

Here is a quick summary of how the Vicy set-up went using the LOC rules. The Axis and French were relatively equal in bargaining position (chits) with a slight advantage to the Axis. Italy only had 9 points in chits so couldn't claim "The Rump".

1) No French minors were claimed by the Axis as the points go to the French and it was too close to allow that.
2) The Italians claimed one cruiser with high AA. For those that don't know this ship is placed in the Italian repair pool.
3) Vichy was established at a level 2. For those who don't know this mean Metro Vichy is now basically the printed map Vichy plus all hexes south of the Loire river. It also results in 50% less Vichy ground forces and means those that are in Vichy will choose to fight if invaded 10% less of the time. This is where we screwed-up last time.
4) The French "saved" the Georges HQ unit. It went to Dakar (new Free French capital).
5) No influence of Vichy minors. Only real wrinkle was that Morrocco became FF.
6) Axis claimed the concession to allow Japanese in Vichy territories as long as they follow foreign troop commitments.

This will now allow the Axis to mop-up Vichy France without pockets of strong resistence in southern France.

Now we get to re-play M-J '40 and J-A '40. Vassal is very nice for this type of correction. :-)
