Roach-eating contest winner choked to death

Quote:
A 32-year-old man who died after downing dozens of roaches and worms last month to win a python at a Florida reptile store choked to death, medical officials said Monday.
Edward Archbold died "as a result of asphyxia due to choking and aspiration of gastric contents," said the Broward County Medical Examiner's Office. It said his airway was obstructed by bug body parts, and ruled his death was an accident.

gulp

His death was not an accident, it was UTTER STUPIDITY!

And - my Mom always told me "everything in moderation." This should apply to bugs also.

Yes, yes, yes, but the question is: Did he win the contest?

My dad would tell me that too. My standard reply was "right now I'm moderating my moderation".

He did! Hence the headline at the top of my post: Roach-eating contest winner choked to death

Italics added for emphasis.

Don't you hate a smug pedant?

This is nearly as bad as the woman who died of water poisoning to win a Wii. I'd look up a link, but honestly, I shudder to read the story again. It just makes me feel nauseous.

ALSO:

"You are having trouble getting it all down. Stop eating? [y/n] n"
"You have choked to death on a live roach. Identify belongings? [y/n]"

I remember that and even heard clips of her during the show. Sick. And she was just trying to do something nice for her kids. They'd rather have her back than a wii, huh?

I don't see how companies think this kind of thing is a good marketing idea. But the participants aren't thinking clearly either.

Just to make the story even more disgusting, I wish to point out that "aspiration of gastric contents" implies that he ate all those roaches, threw some of them up and choked on his own roach vomit.
