After drawing a depression event card, I need to discard 2 invention cards.

Do I have to prioritise those I have already built, or can it be any that I have not built, or maybe have yet to find?

Think of it this way.
An invention card is the knowledge you have to build something.
Once you have built it, the invention (is flipped over) and becomes an ITEM.

So, if the Depression causes you to discard an invention, then your mind is so fogged, that you forget how to invent something- simply remove the two inventions (luckily of your choice) from those available.

I don't believe it has an effects on items that you have built (there are plenty of other events that'll ruin those for you )

Thanks again, Robin - stay online!

If I encounter a beast on the hunt, is it discarded after the fight or does it return to the hunt deck?

Yep, I guess, but there must be more than 1 herd of goats out there?

I suppose another option would be to shuffle back into the beast deck?

Can't see this covered in rules or FAQ.

We do, too. Seems like there are more cards than one could possibly encounter in a single game, anyway. We like the variety.

I've been putting the killed beasts at the bottom of the beast deck. Is that ok? I doubt it will come back up in a play through.

Sidenote: Cheetahs on a deserted island? I explained to my kids that the ship we were on was carrying circus animals enroute to Asia and that's why there's a Cheetah.

A simple glance at the picture should make it intuitively obvious to the most casual observer this is intended to be the rare South Pacific Island cheetah.

It all becomes clearer if you ever seen the move "The life of Pi.

Btw -- thanks for bringing up the Depression card .. wasn't sure where to draw those two cards from .. I just took it from the invention deck .. still lost. I find the Depression so appropriate .. being that it was in round 2 that I drew it, all of a sudden I became depressed. lol.
