Hi guys, I'm looking for a euro game that have a strong theme feel in it.
Recently I played Eclipse and I love it, for me its like euro+ameritrash game. (The bad thing is it could take more than 3 hours to finish).

So any recommendation for me? Personally i prefer a game with shorter playtime (no more than 2 hours) and less text involved.

Thank you

If your looking for a nice lite sometimes tense game, I would say try looking for a copy of Manila. It is out of print, but I was able to find a copy of it. And if you find a place that has it snag it up.

If you like Eclipse, then Nexus Ops is the obvious choice.

Carson City is pretty thematic. I'm not sure how much you like the wild west, though.

Tikal is another euro with a pretty good theme that matches gameplay (searching for treasure in buried temples).

Last Will. It has the euro worker placement feel but the theme of Brewster's Millions is very strong!

+1 Carson City

Rattus? It's like El Grande, but lighter and with a mega-distinctive theme.

Pret-A-Porter has about the strongest theme of any Euro game ever. It is a deep, economic Euro.

Of the many games I've played, of all types and kinds, the one with the best theme integration is Flash Point: Fire Rescue. IMHO, nothing beats it. You really feel like you're on a team of fire rescue experts helping others out of a burning building.

That said, just what kind of game is this co-op? Ameritrash? Eurogame? Neither? Both?

As a Eurogamer, I say, who cares? Nor will anyone who plays this great game with you. Just get it and don't worry about classifications. They are all starting to blend together anyway.

+ 1 Dungeon Lords. Totally crazy theme + rulebook, but a strong economical touch, and the typical "I want to do more then I am able to"

Western Town. New from this years Essen Spiel, Western-theme (what else!?), but a great mechanism (in my view).

Both games take more then 2 hours, when playing with somebody new, but match your time-requirement, as soin as everybody knows it.

Dungeon Petz is a good one for a strong(yet silly) theme.

Le Havre's Theme is strong not in the sense of components hitting you in the face, but rather that everything in it makes SENSE, nothing really feels contrived.

High Frontier's Theme is very strong, it's just also very complex and somewhat difficult to brain ^^

I would strongly recommend Torres.

It was SDJ of 2000 from Kramer and Kiesling. For me it was the last real sophisticated SDJ. Theme isnt that involving and a bit fitted. But theme dont make a good strategic game. Certainly the Gameplay and Strategic layer is unbelievably deep with highest replayability. You have the option to totally disable luck with the master rule what gives the game a pure stategic playstyle. No text. Simple Rules. Playtime last about 1 hour so there is always room for another. It still hits the table after over 10 years. For me its one of the best.

Thebes is highly thematic.

+1 Flash Point: Fire Rescue

Probably not what the OP was looking for, but they fit the request perfectly.

I really feel that Agricola has a strong theme, especially if you get all the animeeples and vegimeeples. It brings out the farming and strife aspects very well and gives you a taste of how hard farming could be.

...and lots of incomprehensible rules—or rules missing entirely.

At least that's what the kiddies are reporting.
