Newer played the game , but I've been offered the game (used once) incl. 2 promos for the same price as I can get the boardgame (without promos) in the local boardgamestore.

My question is : Do the promos add anything else than collectors/completeist value to the game? I have a feeling that the promos are way too powerful and will easily kill other gladiators. In that case I would simply leave the promos out and just play the base game (promo-value = zero).

Do the promos add anything to the game itself?

They are powerful, but are only available to all through auction. If you think they're awesome, bid higher than everyone else.

If you enjoy the dice rolling arena phase and would like to spice it up even more then I recommend getting them. The promo cards add more diversity to possible gladiator match ups.

They are also more exciting than the top tier gladiators in the basic game because while both are strong, the promo cards each have distinct strengths and weaknesses, which means you can counter them, whereas a 4-4-4 gladiator is all rounded and your only hope of beating him in the arena is out-equipping and out-rolling him.

If you are lucky, you may receive one from your dealer when you buy the game (some dealers were given certain promos to distribute to customers).

The promo cards were also given out at various (board)gaming conventions, so visitors may have received a few copies.

Winners in GF9's contests for Spartacus also received the promos as prizes.

Last but not least, you can try buying them on eBay and other auction sites from the scalpers at relatively exhorbitant prices.

If we are going in this direction, I would be happy to receive any promo except Acerbitas.
