The game has no skill. Everyone can win it, there's nothing to learn. I mean, you just learn the combinations and numbers and win, it's shallower than Monopoly. I could go and win the tournaments but the game is so shallow and so stupid that I don't need to actually try to prove that I can win.

The ony reason this game sells is because its played by adolescent sheeple who haven't tried a real eurogame or a deep wargame like A Few Acres of Snow. Magic is won by the guy who spends more money, so you go and spend 500€ in a deck only to be beaten by the guy who spend 1K€, who is also going to be beaten by the guy who spend 20.000€, the game is designed for this, it's like cars, the more expensive it is, the faster it runs.

I mean, older cards are BANNED FOREVER! And there's absolutedly no way to play them. I mean, sure, there's some people who play with all the cards except for some that are obviously broken but I didn't see anyone when I went to my local shop playing it so it must obviously not be played anywhere by anyone.

So stop having fun, guys!

You say all these negative things, yet rate the game a 10? I'm sooo confused about this...I mean how will this affect the ranking?!?

Or in casual, where those with too good decks are just told to use a different one? (Or is that just my group?)

It was a traumatic night when the WoTC police raided my house for all my old MtG cards. The literally ripped them out of the sleeves. Dogs were barking, kids screaming, women were weeping (or was that when Detroit won the NBA Finals?)

Come on now, none of us actually PLAY the game, we're simply WOTC plants. Was I supposed to say that out loud?

The people I tend to game with whine if you attempt to do this. Ugh. I don't play Magic with my friends any more.

Ironically, most multi-player casual games with my friends devolve into who has the most broken of the broken. At that point, it's just a politics game.

I've often found that the "rivalry" between casual and competitive players is a bit strange.

Casual says "competitive players are rude and don't know how to play for fun!" Yet, the most yelling, screaming, pouting, and name calling comes out of casual tables I've sat at.

Not every casual group mind you, but when you go from competitive tournaments where people are all pretty good natured and friendly, then sit down at a table where you have people screaming at each other and trying to one-up one another... sheesh!

And Tumblr, and my column, and in my new podcast where I ramble about things while I drive to work. Did I mention I once wrote for Rosanne?

the OP needs to get schooled in Cube Magic and have his ass handed to him.

Probably in under 10 minutes, no doubt.

I was starting to get scared when several people in a row took it seriously.

I wonder what's the most expensive MTG deck you can build without misprints, foils or special editions.

Well, of course we have to limit it to 60 cards, otherwise even Island.dec would be infinitely expensive.

Ahh, I had thought the constraint was "reasonable competitive deck in some format."

That would also be a fun constraint but who know what you could come up with!
