Tried to watch one episode of this show, but we found it unbearably cringe-inducing.

The original British version of The Office set the bar excruciatingly high for cringe-worthy shows that are totally view-worthy as well, and at first I didn't think Parks and Rec came close. I changed my tune, however, after I gave it another chance. It's the same reaction I had to Romney, except that I don't still despise Parks and Rec.

I'd seen a few Swanson clips, so I gave the show a shot last week. After 3 episodes, my verdict is too much Amy Poehler. I Love all of the supporting actors, without exception. I do not enjoy Poehler for any of the many minutes she is onscreen.

I'm with Dave!

I went to the Wikipedia entry to clarify something about the style of filming, and ran across this:
"The Leslie Knope character underwent minor changes after the first season in response to audience feedback that she seemed unintelligent and "ditzy". ...
Parks and Recreation received generally mixed to negative reviews during its first season; many critics saw it as too similar to The Office.[citation needed] However, after a reapproach to its format and tone, its second and third seasons received much higher critical acclaim."

So maybe I'll pull up season 2 on Netflix and see. As I said, the supporting characters are great.

That's interesting. Might be worth a look. We cancelled our Netflix in favor of keeping HBO and Showtime, though.

Just use a picture of yourself. You have a Ron Swanson kind of look about you.

The first season was why I thought the show was worthless. My daughter picked it up in the second season, recommended it, and I gave it another shot. In the context of having watched the whole second season, I didn't mind going back and watching the first, thereby seeing the progression. The show most definitely gets better as you come to appreciate the cast's very real talent.

I hold the minority opinion that season one was the best; it had a compelling indie-ish quality to it, centered on the slow and thoughtful "the pit" arc. Season two onward changed to standard rapid-fire zaniness, crisis-of-the-week sitcom fare that I don't care for, but I agree Leslie's character improved and I think her presence has pretty much kept the show afloat.

We still watch it faithfully though, as I don't want to risk missing a Jean-Ralphio scene.

When the choice on TV is between a show like Parks & Rec and CNN coverage of the "Please Tax Us More" millionaires, I set my DVR to record color bars.

Also, the best RSP poster (although he doesn't post much these days) is clearly Marshall.

The thing I hate most about BGG is when someone quotes a load of quote boxes and only replies with one sentence.
