I had had a question about turn order and discovered it may be a new variant, so here it goes:

"Turn End" rules say... The player to your left now begins their turn. Keep taking turns until the game ends. This does not in any way say that the turns are person to the left constantly, only the first player of the round must be on the left.

Here is what happened: Recently I played a game and we each used our colored player card to indicate if we went on a turn. Once everyone went, we "untapped" our cards. We discussed the best course of action. Then we each took our turns, but we could go in any order. When we went, we "tapped" our card so we didn't go again.

If we still follow the letter of the rule, whoever ends the round will trigger who starts the next round. No player will go twice in a row and lots of strategy can be made with mixed up turn order and planning ahead to who will start the next round.

Actually, I had a similar question the other day when playing with eight players on the advanced level (not a good idea -- only one save out of two games). It appears to me that the ability to change turn order is very useful if not more realistic.

One of the ideas was to situate all players in a thought out turn manner before the game starts. Several times is has been beneficial to send the Paramedic deep into the building to heal people and then have the Rescue Specialist follow and retrieve them. There are still limitations to this, and order changing on the fly can help.

In reality all FFs are working in parallel in addition to listening for order changes from the captain or being called up by another FF to aid: "Kevin, can you hose down that fire outside the door so that Kirk can open it and cary [insert injured person] to safety?" W/o the ability to change order, the fire Kevin put out could well be a new blaze by the time Kirk gets his turn (as often happens). That can be very fun and also frustrating.
