Looking at your collection I see a number of non-FFG games. However, it seems apparent you're a big fan of heavily themed games. I'm curious: since you post no ratings, it's difficult to suggest blindly. Assuming you're not going to review your collection overnight, how about sharing 5 of your favorites from your collection.

That might lead us to better targets.

Hi, my name is Matt, and I have a FFG game buying problem.

The vast majority of my collection has the blue/silver emblazoned logo of FFG as well.

For something nonFFG Try...

Merchants & Marauders

King of Tokyo

Cutthroat Caverns

ok.. yeah I should probably manage my collection on BGG better..

It is true I really like thematic games, and I also enjoy co-op games as I feel too much direct competition can lead to friction in a game group after a while, especially if you are trying to induct new games, say your my new girlfriend or something . I'm partial to scifi settings and fantasy settings and not so much on classical settings or traditional wargames like conquer the map type games. I enjoy fancy components.

What I really like is games that you can play in a decent amount of time... say 3 hours is on the long side.. 4 now and then. With kids and cats I can nto really leave games up for a session next time.

I am nvr good at picked my fav games.. I love Arkham Horror but it truth it hasn't hit the table in years. I think Merchant of Venus was the best game I have played recently, followed closely by Mage Knight.. might be the other way around... but Venus had that great mix of simple gameplay that nvr bogged down in complexity... . Not so keen on D&D Dungeon Crawlers.. well I am but with Descdent, Wrath and Run I think that is well covered as I plan to get the other D&D games that go with wrath.

Conquest of Planet Earth: The Space Alien Game - yeah I have been thinking of this.. and I really like the Touch of Evil games...

Zombicide - Personally I dislike zombies as a theme.. I just have nvr understood the appeal of zombies...

I'll check those others out.. some I have heard but some not.

I have never had any interest in FFG games, being a lighter non-conflicty euro guy and all. However, in the last couple months, I suddenly ended up with Android: Infiltration, Elder Sign, and Rune Age. It was disturbing until I remembered that 2 of the 3 can be played cooperatively.

Claustrophobia will get you a good thematic game that isn't an FFG game and feels quite different than their typical fare

I will second King of Tokyo if you are looking for something lighter and silly.

Zombies don't usually grab me either, but Zombicide is still great fun. I recommend giving it a play if you bump into somebody who owns it!

I will also echo the Alien Frontiers love up above, though I strongly recommend Alien Frontiers: Factions along with it. It turns a pretty fun game into a mad wicked awesome one.

Edit: since they aren't FFG originals, Cosmic Encounter and Merchant of Venus (the classic rules, anyway) don't really feel like FFG games. I say they only half count ;-) Rex could be the same way, but I haven't played it or Dune and so I don't know for sure.

Oh.

Nevermind.

(Seriously, though... get it anyway. You can get the Avalon Hill version if it'd make you feel better)

I have a friend who is a huge FFG-fan. He likes thematic games, but he also likes that they are deep, complex, games where you take hours to play and tell a story. He also enjoys collecting the expansions and how you can setup different scenarios/setups.

His favorites include Battlestar Galactica: The Board Game, Arkham Horror, and Twilight Imperium (Third Edition). He has been looking into getting Descent: Journeys in the Dark (Second Edition) and Android: Netrunner. We just got Rex: Final Days of an Empire and are very excited to have our first game next weekend.

Despite trying to show him many other kinds of games, and his willingness to try out (and beat me at) every new game I get, once is usually enough for him and then he is uninterested in them. The only games that he will repeatedly play are Innovation and Catan (with the Catan: Cities & Knights expansion).

Looking at your owned games I'd recommend checking out:
* Mage Knight Board Game - a very complex fantasy adventure game
* Merchants & Marauders - excellent Caribbean pirates/merchants game
* Earth Reborn - sci-fi tactical game
* Claustrophobia - dark fantasy tactical game
* Kingdom Death: Monster - on Kickstarter, just looks so cool...

I also find myself attached to FFG, and being that I live a mere 20 miles from the big FF events center doesn't help either. I was online yesterday and Amazon had Merchant of Venus and Android:Netrunner on sale and I couldn't help myself. But as far as other themed games that I adore:
Dungeon Petz and Dungeon Lords.

Race for the Galaxy, Stone age and Dominion.

I also have a fondness for Alhambra and Urban Sprawl.

FFG has made some of my very favorites, Descent, Twilight Imperium. Their bits are great. I love that if you are missing or break a piece they have always been super friendly to replace them.

If only they shipped things on time!

My favourite non FFG games are
Tigris & Euphrates
and
Puerto Rico

but I have a feeling that of the games I've played you would love
Shadows over Camelot
the best.

try it out and see if you like it (or at least read about it).
Essentially it's a medieval "king Arthur" style co operative adventure.

You may want to try Survive: Escape from Atlantis!.

Anything by Flying Frog would also seem like a good bet.

Pandemic is still considered the "best of the crop" co-op by many (although some are liking the firefighter one more).
