Here's my idea for skills. A random skill can be bought at the entrance for 6 trophies. Why more expensive than allies? This isn't AH. Allies in ES, except for 2 relatively weak ones, aren't permanent. Skills are. Here are some:

Endurance
+1 Maximum Stamina

Strong Will
+1 Maximum Sanity

Mythos Lore
Once per turn, you may reroll 1 die.

Luck
Once per day, after rolling for the Lost & Found, you may reroll.

Expert Occultist
Once per day, you get 1 extra, free trophy to spend at the Entrance.

Scavenge
Once per day, after you draw a Common item, Unique item or Spell, you may discard it to draw new card, respectively.

Even though there aren't many game elements to play with in ES (like stats and skill chekcs in AH for example), I'm fairly sure it's possible to think of more ideas for skills.

Pretty much anyone's ability could be turned into a purchasable skill. Like the nun's ability to ignore locked dice, for instance.

Special abilities should be unique, not something anyone can buy with trophies.

Hm... This could be an interesting idea for developing your investigator during the game itself...

So let's say you begin with a "generic" investigator, and then as you gain more experience (trophies), you slowly acquire new abilities. Pretty much the same way you do it in an RPG.

Might be an interesting variant with many possible strategies towards the final goal. On the other hand, it would be probably very hard to achieve just the right balance between various abilities and skills, or else some of them would become too obvious or too easy...
