This app has shite written rules for the Advanced race option, so I thought maybe this could help someone. In the Advanced race option, and only for a 3 lap race, you can allocate 20 penalty points across 6 different mechanisms of your car. Those mechanisms are the following:
Tyres: Use these points to wear away your tires when you overshoot your last stop in a corner.
Brakes: Use these points to wear away your brakes either to better position yourself into turns or instead of tire wear when you overshoot your last stop in corner. Also, a brake pointe will be deducted when you down shift 3 or more gears.
Fuel: the first penalty section when you down shift two or more gears.
Bodywork: you only possibly give up these penalty points when you stop next to someone. It's not automatic, there's only a 1-in-20 chance. The app is opaque about the die roll for this. Not sure why.
Engine: these points are deducted if you down shift 3 gears or more. There is also a 1-in-5 chance of engine wear penalty if somebody rolls a 20 in 5th gear or a 30 in 6th gear. ALL players in 5th or 5th gear will also have a 1-in-5 chance of engine wear. Again, the app is opaque about the die roll for this, though more justifiably so from an async perspective.
Road-Holding: According to the developer himself: "[road-holding] is actually only used in 3-lap races, when a player runs over some debris left on the track from a collision!"
According to the print game rules, debris in the form of a damage marker is left on the track whenever engine or car body points are lost, presumably to be dodged by racers lest they face a roll on the app's opaque die for a 1-in-5 chance to lose a road-holding point. Lose your last road-holding point and get eliminated.
The developer himself even admits this is rarely used and suggests that they may remove it from the app.
Based on these understandings, my typical 20 point allocation often goes something like this:
Tyres: 9 or 10
Engine: 2 or 1
