What's the point of shuffling the decks and maintining their order when searching through them (as the rules are keen to point out).

You can search through them both for track and for shares, the only time where the deck order and top card matters is when taking payouts. I can see there is a minor benefit to taking certain cards from certain decks to hold in hand and act as track denial, but if you were going to allow that, why not allow that as a 'search through the deck' process anyway?

Seems a little odd as a thing to worry about, just keeping the decks stacked with cards in numerical order would make setting up and starting quite a bit faster.

If you don't shuffle the decks certain routes and stations will be less desirable every time due to the same cards that are required to upgrade being taken more often than not from the station piles.

An experienced player can well manipulate the decks in this way to ensure that one colour retains more expansion potential than other colours.

A more fundamental question:

If we're meant to shuffle the cards, why are they actually too thick to shuffle? :)
