Anyone interested in starting a game?

I'm a relative Noob to HiS, but have some experience with the 2 player variant.

Post here or geekmail me if interested.

I am interested. What will we be using (ACTS, Vassal, Cyberboard)?

Hi Steven, I am most familiar with Vassal, so that would be my preferred method. Glad to have you on board.

Hi Davide. No, the Vassal module is not difficult to understand. Thanks for the interest. We're halfway there.

I'd be interested. I've played one 3-player face to face and the first few turns of a 6-player via ACTS/Vassal which was unfortunately abandoned.

OK, great, thanks for the interest. We're up to four now. I've never used ACTS myself. Is it necessary?

It's nice because it serves as a neutral place to roll the dice and handle cards, but it is optional.

Seeing as how Vassal does this also, what is the purpose of ACTS?

It removes the [temptation of|possibility for] cheating.

Yes. With ACTS you can't cheat dice rolling or card draws. In Vassal someone could just reload the file until they get the results that they want. In a public pick-up game of HIS, I would always use ACTS.

As Kristian and Michael mentioned, with Vassal you can make files over and over again until you get a result you desire. Not saying that might happen, or that any of us would do such a thing, but with ACTS you are guaranteed that this will not happen.

If I remember rightly, ACTS also provides a continuous log of the game which you can check back on at any time.

OK, I'm fine with using ACTS then. I naturally err on the side of assuming that people wouldn't cheat, but if ACTS takes that out of the equation altogether, then that's fine with me.

Yep and it is set up so it directly emails everyone. It's a pretty simple, but effective tool for PBEM. If you want to give control to one of us who has used it a few time, we could do that.

The main trick is that there is a value which keeps track of certain cards which are optionally added (due to the reformation in England and King Henry's heirs), you just need to always make sure it is correct before you deal the next batch of cards.

OK, sounds really good. Feel free to take control

I've just signed up for an account there.

I like it.

How many more do we need and do we all have ACTS accounts?

Same here, and I've never had a bad experience. I think it's safe for gamers to give each other more credit than they generally do. Guess I just want to believe there can't be all that many unredeemable d-bags that would embarrass themselves by cheating in a no-stakes, online boardgame of all things (leaving aside tournament play).

To me cheating is more a function of your players than the software. Still, it's unfortunate that the software tools don't (yet?) have the built-in safeguards that would spare everyone from even having the discussion.

Oh man, I am glad you both could join us. This should be a fun game.

I will go throw our names in a hat and select some powers, unless someone wants to set it up now. I can do it during my lunch break otherwise.

I'll leave the ACTS stuff to you if that's OK. I'm a noob, but am happy to play any power.
