Re: PBF#5 - Nuns on the Run - Play by Forum game sign-up - Using The Monk expansion
So, question on the Monk - because he starts the game on 84, does he see novices in their first turn of movement? For example, if Bernadette goes and gets the key at #82 on turn 1 as part of her double move, does the Monk see her do so (ie, leaving space 57, and place a vanished token between 57 and 84).

This seems like an incredible advantage, especially since the guards won't have chosen a path by this stage yet. Might I suggest that the Monk doesn't appear until turn 1, but at that point a path is chosen and then he gets to move? The rules are a little unclear (big surprise) and only say 'at the beginning of the game he starts at 84" and on turn 1 picks a path and moves. I think it would be safe to rule that he doesn't arrive till the start of the guard movement phase on turn 1, and is then allowed to pick a path and move on turn 1 (so, he still moves on turn 1, but doesn't see any of the novices moving on turn 1 - unless they end their move within line of sight of 84).

...actually, I've just realised, its only ever going to be a problem in that one example I listed... the monk can't see that much of the garden from space 84, and the only way he'll see a novice moving through there is if it is bernadette going after key #3. No other novice is going to run through there on turn 1, because no other keys are along that path really... So... probably not a big issue then, I just suggest, if we play with Bernadette, we should implement that rule (just in case she is after key 3).

...wait. Scratch that. That then gives Bernadette an exclusive advantage IF she is going after key #3, in that she'll be the only novice that won't get seen entering the tree... so, yeah, ignore everything I just posted... tough luck for whoever is going after key #3.

As I understand it there are no vanish tokens. The Monk does not give the Nuns the ability to leave their routes, ever. In the reporting it would just be:

Bernadette: On the run, last seen by the monk moving from #52-53-57 disappearing at #82

IOW, the Monk only gives the guards player info. Not opportunity.

EDIT: besides, it is much more interesting to see what the Monk sees going on in the chapel on his next turn or two depending on his route.

Its ok Mandy, glad you're still around - hope to see you in the next one

Good luck with your wedding! If you're getting married in the church, you should definitely check under the altar for a key to your secret wish (which I hope is wedding cake)

Yes, you're right sorry, when I said 'vanish token' I meant to say 'Bernadette shows that she moved there'.

Skip that wedding: there are more important things in life, such as the 5th NotR PBF.

Well we have 4 novices then.. that should be a good amount with the Monk in Play.. I am going to go ahead and set up the game..

I will start The Monk on #84 as that seems to be the consensus..

I will send out wishes and blessings and novices in a little bit.. I will choose novices randomly, except no cursed Margaret for Pee..

edit: I just noticed that Ien hasn't weighed in.. I sent him a PM and I am going to give him a little time to reply..
