Summer has arrived in Sydney and with it the obligatory bushfires. I only live 10 mins away from the city centre.

A small one broke-out near my house this afternoon. 4 appliances and 5 waterbombing helicopters buzzing my house for the past 3 hours, including a skycrane, capable of dumping thousands of litres in a single dump. The bombers are dousing the fire, just over the ridge of the hill, around 200 metres away, very noisy but quite spectacular.

Another video. The fireys are still back-burning and will be doing so all night.

Good luck. We've been having good luck with the Canadian Super-Scoopers:

See, I actually kinda want to do this when I leave the air force - can't convince my wife it's a good idea though. Plus, to be honest, I know nothing about piloting these things - just seems like it'd be a really interesting/cool job.

If you fly a Warthog, I would think it would be a good fit. Unfortunately, the Super Scoopers are leased from Canada with their pilots, at least around here; and you'd face deployments just like the miiitary, though not so long. OTOH, some Light Sport aircraft are seaplanes, and pretty inexpensive--they can only carry two, though. If you fly cargo, the airlines used to be a good option; who knows, now. If you fly choppers: news choppers, air ambulances, police and fire choppers.... There are always executive jets, too, where your high level of training would be a plus.
