I'm sure this is just imaginary though. We know that no one voted for Obama expecting free stuff.

Quote:
The city of Detroit faces a major financial crisis and one member of city council thinks President Barack Obama should step in and help.

City Council member JoAnn Watson said Tuesday the citizen's support of Obama in last month's election was enough reason for the president to bailout the struggling the city. (Click the video player to listen)

"Our people in an overwhelming way supported the re-election of this president and there ought to be a quid pro quo and you ought to exercise leadership on that," said Watson. "Of course, not just that, but why not?"

Nearly 75 percent of Wayne County voters pulled the lever for Obama in November.

The White House has expressed no plans to bailout the cash-crunched city that some experts say could run out of money by the end of the year.

The federal government has bailed out cities in the past, however. In 1975, President Gerald Ford extended more than $2 billion in credit to New York City to help it avoid a financial collapse.

Video at the link.

You mean people do things expecting things from other people? You mean, people sometimes try to broker their support for a candidate into special influence over that candidate?

Say it ain't so BJ, say it ain't so! The American Dream is a Lie! Ice cream is made from the bones of dead babies! Beer is made from the recycled piss of beer drinkers!

This sort of atrocity would never have taken place under a Republican administration. *cough* http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ulysses_S._Grant_presidential_a... *cough*

(Seriously, this is silly. Someone always wants something. This lady is just less educated about how to do it. How is it any different from big oil wanting to 'ease' permits for drilling and environment regulations when their guy gets elected?)

Pretty much standard belief though. She's just not a professional to know how it works. She's blabbing her mouth in front of cameras instead of whispering the right words to the right people.

Her speech is a classic example of saying out loud what other people do all the time but don't like to talk about.

It is pretty damn funny though, so I will give you that. Thumbed for humor.

I want a bailout. You give me enough to pay off my mortgage, that puts more money in my pocket.

Money I can then use to remodel my home, aiding the local construction industry.

Or buy a new car, helping the automobile industry.

Or allow me to put more into my IRA, which in turn will be invested and help who knows what.

So where's my bailout?

As opposed to what? How would Romney handle it differently? Shouldn't the good people of Detroit be shouldering their own burdens and taking personal responsibility etc. etc. blah blah blah bootstraps and son on?

If the people of Detroit had voted for Romney we would have been red. Basically, all counties that weren't around Detroit or Kalamazoo were red. Some exceptions, but you get the idea.

I didn't say Romney would handle it differently. Detroit's 40 years of mismanagement by Democrats aren't the fault of the Federal government. I'm just entertained by the irony of it all. It's like rain, on your wedding day, a free ride, when you've already paid.

If you want to make fun of Drew for misusing "irony," do it to his face. I did, but if you do it he'll actually see it.

What Irony? I don't recall ever seeing any way say that voters don't want free stuff. I have only seen people say that there is no difference between the Republican and Democrat voters (other then who gets the free stuff).

That's actually every state. Whether overall it's a red or blue state, when you break it down by district it's always cities are blue and everything else red.

I don't know if that's good or bad and in what way.

Fail. While it's correct that in most states that went democrat the rural areas trended republican, it's false that every state had a red/blue, rural/urban pattern. Here's an example:

Just taking Texas and Idaho as samples many of the blue areas in Texas are heavily Latino and also less urban, more rural. In Idaho the two blue areas are the wealthiest counties per capita in the state - where Sun Valley and Cour de 'Alene are, the homes of the uber rich democrats that most here would be claiming don't exist ( because Democrats are blue collar and republicans are fat cats dontcha' know). Utah and Oklahoma didn't have a single blue county despite both having highly concentrated urban areas.

It helps to know what one is talking about before posting it here in RSP Dan - because, as we all know, this is no place for gut feelings and ego.

Jesus. You can't even read your own graph. You also fail.

By the way, I do find this pretty interesting over all, the subject of why liberals seem to collect in urban population centers and why normally conservative people tend to vote for progressive candidates (against their own interests) when they live in cities.

Because.

Somewhere out there on that horizon
Out beyond the neon lights
I know there must be somethin' better
But there's nowhere else in sight
It's survival in the city
When you live from day to day
City streets don't have much pity
When you're down, that's where you'll stay
In the city, oh, oh.
In the city

I was born here in the city
With my back against the wall
Nothing grows, and life ain't very pretty
No one's there to catch you when you fall
Somewhere out on that horizon
Faraway from the neon sky
I know there must be somethin' better
And I can't stay another night
In the city, oh, oh.
In the city

After 15 minutes of research I do believe why I discovered why urban residents tend to vote for progressive/socialist politicians. It's all explained in this video clip. Oh, and the people being interviewed here seem, to me, to be pretty much of the exact same mind as RSP liberals. I even recognized a couple of you:

I read the article and many of the supporting documents, I don't rely on pretty pictures. Give it a shot and sound out the big words. With the exception of five cities, every major urban center in the country went blue. Of those five, Phoenix was very close to blue and one of them was the Mormon mothership of Salt Lake City. In all, 27 of the top 30 cities by population voted blue.

The fact that you think people suddenly start voting "against their own interests" because they move to a city is more telling than anything. Urban dwellers have different interests and priorities than rural folks. People interact with others differently (and more frequently with more strangers) in cities than in the country, and want laws that reflect that. Most people's political views evolve over their lifetime based on many factors, and certainly moving to a city could be a significant factor.

I notice that the interviewer didn't spend much time in the financial district or in soma where all the thriving tech companies are located.

Nope. SF, even though it has an incredibly high median income and cost of living is nothing but child-perverting gays and head shops filled with stoned idiotic post-hippies.

We have awesome (and very busy) churches here as well, but I suppose that doesn't support your idiotic narrative, so why focus on that?

The only narrative in this fucked up forum that is idiotic is yours and the rest of the liberals who love to dish bullshit out on a regular basis but get all offended and self-righteous if anyone makes fun of them. You people were pretty fucking self-absorbed and pompous before Lord O got reelected, now you have just become unfunny, which is a perfect match for your being unintelligent.

As for Damian's bullshit response, he has zero humor left as well, this is the place where any minor, tiny little error by me is pounced on gleefully by the parsers of minutia that infest this shithole. Yet he feels just fine saying "all cities" when even his link states it's not all cities. Get it right dude, or back the fuck off when other people aren't perfect.

Man, I swear, if it wasn't for the Keystone Kops show performed here by the Canadian contingent and the occasional appearance by our Spanish Commies, CapAp and the resident Grammar Nazi, I'd leave you guys to feed on each other. But hey, what would be the fun in that?

Yes they should. 31 cities or counties have declared bankruptcy in the last two years. Why should Detroit get bailed out while the other 31 don't?

I'm not sure what "minutia" of yours you think I was correcting. You were the first to reply to me, not vice versa. Perhaps you have me confused with a voice in your head.

As for my "all cities" statement, I'm perfectly willing to accept that it was hyperbole and it would have been more accurate to say "almost all cities". Unlike yourself, I have no problem adjusting my worldview and correcting mistakes when presented with new facts or evidence.

Awesome. I think this is the first time, in all of RSP history that any non-conservative has ever admitted being wrong.... but even then, you would never actually say "I was wrong". Saying it was hyperbole just feels better huh? Except it isn't hyperbole, it's called being wrong. And knowing it.

We'll see if you even have a worldview after the upcoming cliff. And when you do decide to just be a man and admit you knowingly typed into this forum false data in order to support your political bias, then we'll know you have suddenly grown a spine.

I don't think they should get a bailout. BJ seemed to be implying that he did, or that it was in some way a failing of Obama if they didn't. I was asking what he though the President should do.
