League of Legends pro player banned for jerkiness

Fantasy MOBA League of Legends is (in)famous for its boorish player behavior, so much so that Riot Games even tasked a group of 30 developers and scientists with finding a way to get the game's expansive community to play nice.

The firm has apparently given up on reforming one player, though, as it has handed down a permanent ban to pro gamer Christian "IWillDominate" Rivera for his "tendency to engage in verbal abuse and insults, his lack of cordial demeanor, and his treatment of less-skilled players." Rivera, who is a member of Team Dignitas, has been brought before LoL's player tribunal nine times, and Riot reports that he has also engaged in "repeated incidents of similar behavior outside the game."

The company's announcement acknowledges the effect the ban may have on Rivera's career, but it says that "no other professional players in North America approach this individual's harassment score," and "promoting good sportsmanship and improving player behavior is a mission that's extremely important to Riot."

Reading (not very far) between the lines the blokes an arse anyway.

I have to say why not pay me a fee to tell them how to get players to play nice, ban anyone who is not.

As a LoL player it has been interesting to see how the game has changed since they made a real commitment to getting rid of jerks.

The game really was super toxic but in recent months things have turned around largely. They instituted a tribunal, which is just geekmod for jerks. You can read game logs of reported players and give them the thumbs up or down. From my point of view this has drastically reduced games where people openly rage at other players, or drop n bombs.

I don't feel bad at all for dominate. I do feel bad for the rest of Dig though. They are my favorite NA team, mostly because their mid player Scarra seems like a really nice guy. Hopefully they get a new jungler and are a better team for it

It's fun, it's healthy, it's good exercise. The kids will just love it. And we put a little sand inside to make the experience more pleasant.

Mmm, same reason I really enjoyed shooting clays (Trap, Skeet, Sporting Clays). Nothing like a squad of gentlemen all with shotguns to keep everybody nice and civil

Or fist fights but I guess that depends on who you allow within punching distance?

It's a bit of a conundrum but you first have to survive a Chit Chat Tribunal before you can become an Inquisitor.

I'm fairly certain that it involves time travel to work properly....

Engaging Virtual Spines and using language that would get them shot in some parts of this world just makes them all trolls in my book.
