Most towns have a Scrabble club (just as they have a chess club and a bridge club)
Which in turn eminds me that poker players also tend to be so dedicated.

Apparently I need to be educated. What would be the classification for Warhammer?

Warhammer is simply a standard miniatures game.

It would fit in with WarMachine, Flames Of War, Malifaux and any one of dozens of similar games.

So, are you saying players don't collect miniatures which they use to play then? I am still confused. I thought Warhammer was a system, or branches of systems, that required players to assemble an army of unique figures which they then used to battle in games.

This does not fit the gaming definition of 'collectible' any more than Settlers Of Catan is because you buy expansions to it.

"Collectible" implies the game is purchased in boosters. HeroClix, Magic, Pokemon. This involves a gambling and trading aspect due to the blind nature of the purposes. Hence, you collect them.

Warhammer and similar miniatures games are "customizable". You purchase only the expansions you need, like you would for Dominion or Carcassonne.

This is a fairly big difference in execution.

Though little in costs or the cynical behavior of the manufacturer

I just saw a listing for a local Settlers of Catan group. Perhaps the point is to lure in more people to join the general game night. Or maybe they just really like playing Settlers.

I wonder is the original poster is fishing (or if I'm just projecting to see if there are dedicated groups to things like Agricola or Caylus or Hansa Teutonica and things like that, where there are tons of explorable strategies or replayability and all you want to do is play it and master it, but your regular gaming group perhaps doesn't want to go down the same road.

I'd personally like to know if such groups exist myself.

Dungeon Twister, alas it is pretty regional and I happen to find myself far away from the areas where this game is big.

Beyond what folks have already said, I know a couple guys that have a regular Tichu group. There's also cadre of Twilight Imperium players in town that regularly play it, though they play lots of other games in between.

I would love an Agricola group, though.
