It's a great game but it wouldnt hurt with a lucious theme or anything really. It's dry, oh so dry!

[/irony]It's such an unpopular game I don't suppose anyone has bothered...[/irony]

If you check the images there's an awesome 3d version pictured -

I wish you hadn't brought the subject up - I want to make that 3d version now!

The dryness is part of what makes Caylus Caylus. I would not pimp it because I enjoy the dryness. I thought the deluxe version was overly busy and harder to read.

I'll admit that the theme is not the most exciting, but I wouldn't call it dry. All of the mechanics fit with the theme (building in the castle, obtaining favors, building effects, bribing the Provost). The theme is typical of any Euro, at any rate.

My wife thinks the original board is pretty and that helped her get into the game pretty quickly. She did think it might be fun to swap the cylinders for meeples though. I find the look of the original quite attractive as is.

Oooh that's a nice 3d game.

I actually got my girlfriend to like board games through Caylus too! I guess I'll just let Caylus be Caylus

There should be a Word Games Subdomain, or at least a Word Games Forum!

I pimped it, but it just wasn't bringing in the money, so I had to get rid of it.

I don't like too much theme in my games. It leads to miniatures, which - practise shows - aren't a good "game mechanic" (frequently they're treated as such), cards with text and all those horrible things.

Caylus isn't THAT dry. It makes more sense to me than Puerto Rico. Although some themes might make more sense:

1. Building of a space station/habitat. The smaller white dude might be a robot plugging in the power to workstations that do stuff for the main habitat. Privelages are "drops" from a space shuttle...

2. A Western Town or a modern city? (Just look at a game: Western Town, imo you could literally take components from that one).

But it's true with most Euros. I'd replace white tokens with meeples. I always forget which is which and we play like:

"Do you move the skinny white guy?"
"So now the white fatty advances"
