I see that someone else thought of this before I thought of it.

DD have more the character of "Hunter Killer Groups", which were built around 1 CVE with many DD and DE (Destroyer Escorts). Several or many of these HKG would-be/are represented by the DD piece, just like about 6 Battleships plus some DD are represented by a BB piece.

These CVE could NOT carry Fighters. Not enough to count as 1 Fighter piece anyway. Perhaps a very small FTR = 1-1-4 for $5, but I think not. Just include them in the ship piece.

DD by themselves were not at all effective at blocking the movement of or finding Subs to attack. They were mostly good at sinking Subs that had already attacked something.

Maybe someday Hasbro will add a CVE piece and use the DD just as a cheap ship to die.

Since this iteration of A&A is rare and out of print, Hasbro probably won't be releasing anything for it, unless they reprint it someday.

Try Axis & Allies Europe 1940 and Axis & Allies Pacific 1940 for a bigger A&A experience. More countries represented, more combat unit types, for more detail and variety. (at the cost of a longer playing time when playing both together)

I meant for Hasbro to add it to a new version or maybe an "Expansion Pack" that could be used with both A&A50 and A&A42 (1st & 2nd Ed.). By meshng it with both they could sell more copies and make more profit.
