With the very greatest of respect to all the amazing wargames out there I would like to offer the following as an ideological contender for Ultimate Wargame: Battle For Souls

Whilst other wargames, either strategic or tactical, are concerned with historical victory, either in the past or the present, this one is focused on not merely the tangible but on the eternal, cosmic and foundational battle between good and evil (or God and Devil) that undergirds ALL other conflicts.

I have already got on board with KickStarter (my first time doing so...) and I can't wait to get this game on my table. For me, it presents a theme and a depth that other games can't attain to and for these reasons I propose it as The Wargame amongst wargames...

Well, as long as it has lots of little bits that you have to push around.

Nope.

If it had hexes and counters of each faction as well as CRTs that we could argue about then sure.

But, as implemented?

Nah.

Some of us would dispute that.

You're kiddin', right?

If not:

a) This doesn't look like a wargame
b) it is promoting a religious view with some "interesting opinion"
c) and because of this "not doing enough good so you will go to Hell" I can introduce you to some very nice people who got wrecked by this doctrine (can't really say what I want to say otherwise my post would be banned due to some strong words) and are now trying to get back on their feet with psychiatric help w/o the Heaven / Hell brainwash they got

Are you trying to promote this game or just troll around on some religious field? If second I suggest posting it under "Religion and other obscure worldviews" (and it will pass my radar, thank you) and not under "wargames".

I am sincerely sorry for posting a thread that has evoked some bad memories for you. Truly.

I am, however, categorically NOT 'trolling around' but rather putting forward a light-hearted idea on a gaming site.

As for the notion that one should ban ALL talk of religion because of the negative experiences suffered by others - surely this is a route that would mean we could never talk about ANYTHING as we've all been damaged/offended/hurt by someone/something at one time or another.

For instance, members of my wife's family were Hungarian Jews, rounded up and then slaughtered in Auschwitz by the Nazis during the war. Should I refuse to speak/engage with all Germans as a result?

No, instead I suggest that we learn from such hideous experiences and distance ourselves from judgement and stereotyping by accepting that not all Christians, Germans, etc are the same but that individual experiences are just that - individual.

As an aside, I certainly don't endorse the unbiblical view that you rightly condemn in your point (c). I instead hold to a rather more Barthian (and I would contend, biblical) view of a person BEING a Christian rather than DOING things that might constitute them being seen as Christian.

Just some thoughts - absolutely NOT trying to pick a fight, in fact, exactly the opposite. So, thank you for responding and being the catalyst to further thought, dialogue and hopefully even understanding...

Peace.

It's not unreasonable to see a negative reaction,
when you try and posit something as a part of a hobby
with which it seems to share absolutely NO features.

The mechanics are not normal ones for a wargame,
the topic does not appear to have anything to do with
war, and the game does not seem to SIMULATE a conflict
(including a mythical one) in any depth.

I could just as well claim that Catan is a wargame,
because there is some competition for resources.

But thank you for making the point that the term is being
applied far too broadly on this site.

See, that's the problem. It's too soon. We need to wait until after the end of time, to assess strategic successes and failures, as they relate to victory conditions.

It's all cards though, so this leads to a further philisophical discussion...

Can a game using only cards as component and game mechanic be a wargame? devil
