Please do not discuss anything in this thread outside this thread!

This thread is for the discussion of strategy to help the team beat David desJardins in PBF14. Any Team Captain and any spectator is welcome to post on this thread and make suggestions. Dave has agreed not to read this thread until the game is over. This thread will contain all information known to the Team Captains. This thread will also contain map and spreadsheet updates.

Anything a Team Captain posts here will not count as an official order, just a suggestion up for discussion.

Advice from spectators on how to help the team win are encouraged!

The scenario is 2-player Druid Nights, PvP allowed, with random tile orientation. Marks on glades may be erased. 2 heroes will be chosen randomly, then heroes will be auctioned between those two.

The two heroes available are Arythea and Goldyx. Dave will choose a hero to bid on first. The team will get first choice of a tactic in round 1. The map will be revealed and hands will be distributed after the hero auction.

Aye, Kapitan!

I recommend to bid max 1 on Arythea if David choose her.
Or even skip bidding.
Both heroes are great it just depends on skills which come out first.
And late levelling up may cause us troubles...
David is an aggressive player and he will not loose opportunity to give us wounds if he finds that opportunity!
I suppose Captain #1 makes final decision?

In PvP format, do we significantly upgrade Arythea and her wound-using skills? Does that mean we should bid any more than one?

If we bid even 1 we start with Fame -1.
So we need to get that extra 1 Fame in order to level up.
Killing an Orc with 3 Fame won't be enough to level up.

I think bidding at all is generally a sucker's move. Arythea is not amazing, especially in points-based scenarios, while potentially needing to kill two dudes before the first level up can be catastrophic. (I wish the bid system referred to endgame points, which would be more interesting.)

Hello everyone,
I will be another captain joining this group. I also agree that we shouldn't bid more than 1 for arythea. 2 fame is too much of a hindrance imo. It requires killing two monsters or getting lucky and killing one of the 5 fame brown or purple monsters to level.

I think Arythea has an advantage in PvP, especially if we get Healing Ritual early. She has more per-turn skills, and I like that about her.

I would put 1 down on Arythea if he chooses her.

Either:
He chooses Goldyx and we get Ary, 0 to 0 and we're up
He chooses Ary, we bid him, and he out bids us, 0 to -2 and we're up
He chooses Ary, we bid him, and he slides, -1 to 0, and we're even-ish

I think Ary has the staying power in the long haul, and can easily bring us abreast from -1 fame. Especially if we can Swift(W) + B.Versa a Summoner early on

I will often repeat actions and updates that take place in the game thread in this thread, so team members and spectators do not have to flip back and forth between the two threads (as much).

DaviddesJ bids 0 for Arythea.

Who knows if we ever fight each other in this game?
This is not "Conquer and Hold".
We need swiftness in this game.
"Flight" may be very important to get to Magical Glades in the night.
I still vote to take Goldyx.

I like Mana Steal - it makes our hand stronger.

I see 2 possibilities to start.
I think both are good.
1) We can kill those Summoners and get the spell from the Tower or
2) Head to the Monastery (edit: kill Cursed Hags), recruit Illusionists, burn it and explore through blue mine...

Burning Shield is tempting...

edit2: And if we kill those Cursed Hags and David opens the way to the Tower as 2nd player we may get there first if hand allows.

I think you're right that I should have made the thread titles more different. But I am not sure how to change the name of a thread. Do you know how to do it?

PBF14: Discussion would be good

Also, I like the Summoner - Tower - Ruins path.. Except we don't have any Ranged to kill the summoners.. With Mana Draw in hand, and Mana Steal available, the RRR ruins could be a major lead however

About those ruins - too far away and too many obstacles to do it.
Mana Draw for 3-4 turns in hand? no way...

I made the edit. It doesn't seem to have changed the title on the PBF page, though.

I don't think Dave is likely to make such a mistake. He uses the subscription feature, so he has probably just unsubscribed from this thread.

This is a tough call. Both directions seem viable, although as Pawel points out, killing the Summoners leaves the way open for David to rush through an assault the tower. I see slightly more value in heading to the monastary. We can kill the orc adjacent to it, hope to draw some Influence cards, recruit on turn two, then burn it down on turn three.

edit: for some reason, I thought we had swiftness in hand

Mana steal would definitely be nice. With Will Focus in hand, I'd love to steal the green die, and then use the gold for movement (with Stamina). However, if we take that route, David may jump in front of us and take the monastary. With mana draw in hand, we could just take early bird and assure we go first.

I think I've talked myself into the thought that the monastary is far superior than the Mage Tower.
