In my copy of For Sale the rules state that the amount of money you get back after dropping out is half the amount bid, rounded up. So if your bid was 3, you would get back 2 (paying 1). However the example seems to say that if your bid was 3 you would get back 1 (paying 2). What's right? We've been rounding up, and that seems to have some nice side effects on odd bids. Have we been doing it wrong?

I think I have the old version of the game/rules.

These same rules in my version of For Sale and I believe this is a misprint. The example is correct. So you should get back half the amount you bid rounded "DOWN". If you bid 5 you would get 2 back. If you bid three you would get back 1. At least that's my understanding from posts I've read elsewhere.

I did not notice this discrepency and took the rules wording.

If you bid 3 you would get 2 back and pay 1. Thats how we have been playing.

Whether to round up or down when receiving change has been discussed a fair bit already (be sure to read through the entire threads, as there is some back-and-forth in the discussion):

The consensus is that you receive half rounded DOWN in change, and pay to the bank half rounded UP.

Pretty sure there was a clarification here that said you round down. This was from Jeremy Young at Uberplay. Otherwise you could bid 1 and pay nothing...
