Blogger extraordinaire and Morning News correspondant Matthew Baldwin has posted his 2005 Good Gift Game Guide.

http://www.themorningnews.org/archives/guides/the_2005_good_...

The games suggested are:

Niagara
Diamant
Ra / For Sale
Poison
Around the World in 80 Days
That's Life
Ingenious
Shadows Over Camelot
Nexus Ops
Jambo

Seems like not a bad list. I know I'm interested in Ra, Diamant, Poison, and Ingenious, and already have That's Life and Jambo. I've played For Sale and enjoy it a lot. Thoughts?

If I had to give one of those games to each friend I had, gamer or not, it would be Ingenious.

I cannot agree with Niagara, NOBODY i've played that with actually liked it.

I'd say Poison, For Sale, Diamant would be the best ones on that list.

For me this year, the top gift games are Ticket to Ride, Poison, and Phoenix.

Hi, this is Matthew Baldwin. Thanks for posting the link.

I'm lukewarm on Niagara myself, but I know a few families that really like it, and families / non-gamers are the target of this list.

While I enjoy year-end lists as much as the next guy, for people who don't buy and play these games all the time, I think it is irrelevant what year it came out. Is someone going to like Ingenious more than Blokus because it came out more recently? Match the game to the recipient. If they are a Gulo Gulo family, by golly, that is what they are going to get!
