Before revealing and counting the coats of arms, the player(s) with the lowest total gives one back to the supply.

Then, the player(s) with the highest total draws one from the supply.

After this, the coats of arms are revealed and scored using the the original rules.

(translation of the rules variant 'Wappenauswertung' from the alea home page)

The reasoning behind this variant: A few pleople complained that it happens sometimes that a player with fewer coats of arms got more majorities, due to luck of the draw.

How about eliminating the luck of the draw entirely?

I agree with several commenters in other threads that this blind luck aspect of an otherwise fairly low-luck game is a little unwelcome, especially in the end scoring, where there's no opportunity for tactical response to it.

It's as if Dorn felt like the world needed more Killer Bunnies and the Quest for the Magic Carrot.
