Here is an example:

Assume the Fellowship Marker is in Hollin and the Fellowship Track shows the Fellowship has moved 2 spaces. Now the Fellowship decides to move and the hunt is successful and the hunt tile reveals the Fellowship. You could stay in Hollin or place the FSP in Gap of Rohan or Goblin's Gate but all of these options are still a long way from declaring in Mordor: Hollin (8), Gap (7), Gate (8) respectively. Your other option is to place the FSP in Western Brown Lands or Eastemnet and then you are only 4 spaces away from Minas Morgul. You would have to face an extra tile for moving through Moria (or 2 if the Balrog is present) but you would be saving the extra Fellowship moves that will delay you and might cause you to draw other tiles.

Another time you might choose to reveal is on Minas Morgul or Morannon so that you can hide there and declare the next turn without allowing the SP to stall you with Cruel Weather or Nazgul Search. This is a bit more complex explanation but it is often the better choice.

Going through some SP strongholds, especially Moria, can save a couple of moves. Doing so is often worth the price of a single Hunt tile.
