Did I overlook something?

It stands to reason that the winner should gain influence when winning the match, but shouldn't the loser lose influence? The only thing I can find is that a champion losing in combat loses influence. This doesn't seem quite right to me, based on the spirit of the show/theme. It stands to reason that losing should be based on the strength of competitor, such as losing nothing for a slave being slaughtered, losing one for a gladiator w/wo favor, and two for losing a champion. What do you guys think?

I don't think it is needed, adds complexity and is too hard - you already lost the fight and so probably a gladitar or money (either lost bets or bribes to keep you gladiator alive).
And if the losing gladiatior fought well, there would be no shame for the losing gladiator school at that time (they put on a good show and lost with honor).

Also note that you only lose an influence from losing a champion (and not for having him lose). So that is either from being sold, death outside the arena or a decapitation (and not for a yield or injury result - and he cannot get a thumbs down by the host).

I think that this would make the game extremely long (5-6 hours)... whistle
