You mean besides "one person gets all the Leadership and Tactics cards and one person gets the Lore and Spirit cards"?

That's how we play, anyway.

What's the within part of the 50 card rule ?

From page 27 of the rulebook..

Quote:
A tournament deck must contain a minimum of 50 cards.
Additionally, no more than three copies of any card, by
title, can be included in a player’s deck.

I think theme helps make the game a lot of fun when teaching a new player. The sphere combos that you pick should work well, so you could do something like:

For lesdership/tactics: Gloin, Gimli, and Thalin for a nice dwarf deck. Or Legolas, Gimli and Aragorn for the fellowship.

For Spirit/lore: Eowyn, Denethor, Beravor or Eowyn, Beravor, Dunhere could be nice.

Just combining the core cards from two spheres will get over 50, which is fine, but it allows you to take out those you like the least. Since you're experienced you could even show him how to build a quick two-sphere deck to give him an idea of what that process is like.

The 50 is the minimum number of cards in the deck if you are using the "tournament" rules. There is no maximum.

More cards in the deck makes the game more difficult.

I have a friend who just got the core set for LOTR:LCG. He wants to get together to learn the game. I have every expansion thru KD Delux so I cannot bring my decks.

I need two decks (one for each of us) from a single core set (no expansions).

I would like to try to combine two spheres in each deck so that he gets an idea of what each sphere is good for.

Feel free to point me to a CardGameDB deck if you have a link. Or just post your card lists here. Thanks!

In order to build two decks from one Core Set, I would probably pair Leadership with Spirit (because of Aragorn and Celebrian's Stone), and Tactics with Lore.

Heroes would be Aragorn, Theodred, Eowyn, and Gimli, Legolas, Denethor (or Beravor).

Then take the two starter decks from both spheres, pick ten cards to remove from the total (taking out mostly Lore cards from the second deck, as the first has less trouble getting cards from the "minor sphere" out; also, try not to take too many Allies out), and that's it.

Yes, exactly.

In a two-sphere deck, you (usually) have one sphere with two heroes (major; 2 resources per round) and the other sphere with only one hero (minor; 1 resource per round).

In the above setup it would be Leadership (major) / Spirit (minor), and Tactics (major) / Lore (minor).

In general, you don't want too many of the minor sphere cards in the deck, since they would just be clogging your hand as you try to scrounge the resources together to play them.

Thanks to Theodred, however, the Ld/Sp deck could easily gain 2 spirit resources each round, if necessary. The Ta/Lo deck, however, won't collect tons of Lore resources, so Lore cards shouldn't be too numerous and not too resource-intensive.
