I've played or watched quite a good amount of games with him, and he manages to always make it fun, whether he's good or evil.

All welcome Laladien!

Laladien wrote:
My name is Pete, though here I'm better known as Laladien. Wait, scratch that - most people know me as Lala, but that's fine. My first game was "Fresh Meat X" and I've been trying to get into as many games as I can handle since! I'm a video game fan / board game aficionado, to boot.

About me:

I'm 39 year old martial arts instructor, teaching Tae Kwon Do to both children and adults. I've been involved in martial arts most of my life and still kick and spar as if I were still in my teenage years (though I get injured quite often because I have the flexibility of an 85 year old confined to a wheelchair). I'm also a writer, having written for IGN and the now defunct GBStation.com. I opened up my own video game website and ran it for about ten years (Deeko.com) and THAT site is gone, too! I currently write for my own video game/board game sites... Galaxynextdoor.com and meeplesnextdoor.com. It keeps me on my toes.

I'm married and have two kids - Evie, my daughter, is 10 and her brother, Gabe is 3. They are my world and they're crazy gamers, too. Even Gabe. He loves board games and video games and will be kicking my arse to the curb in a few years.

I've come to really love this community - and have met a TON of crazy awesome peeps and I'm looking forward to playing more games!

Favorite salad:

Caesar

Where did I hide the money?

I plead the fifth! Ok, I'll tell you... it's located...

Oh, wait a sec. My keyboard stopped working again. I'll tell you later. Darn keyboard.

So was it hard playing three characters in the same movie?

You did a great job replacing into News Anchor. Do you often read games you're not in? Do you replace often?

What's one game you wish you had played in?

Yes, yes it was!

But you've seen the film - it paid off, didn't it?

Thanks! I think, given the short amount of time I subbed in, that it was one of my favorite experiences in WW so far.

I read a lot of the games I'm not in - if only to learn from others while at a distance. All of the fun, none of the pressure, so to speak.

I sub in pretty often, but I've also had to drop games on a dime due to my work schedule.

One game I wish I had played in?

That's a tough one. Truthfully, I'd love to have done the Ironman...

On to some real questions:

Favorite board game?
What initially brought you to bgg? Werewolf?
Favorite actor/actress?
Book?
Three objects you'd most want on a deserted island (besides survival gear)?

Favorite board game:

Ticket to Ride/Betrayal at House on the Hill - it's a tie.

If I had to pick one, it would be Ticket to Ride, but it's too close to call.

What initially brought me to bgg?

Honestly, I found it by accident when I was trying to find a replacement tower for "Dark Tower"... that was around 2005. I made an account, but wasn't active until about 2009...

I found Werewolf by accident, as well. It's one of my favorite F2F games, but I happened to see a forum topic about it on the main page and joined a game... And now I'm hopelessly addicted.

Favorite Actor/Actress:

Actor - Cary Grant. Yes, I may be way past that generation, but come on - the man was amazing. Were you expecting me to say "Peter Sellers"? (In all fairness, Peter Sellers is on my list of favorites, as well). If we're talking a more current favorite actor, I'd say Johnny Depp.

Actress - Katherine Hepburn is my all-time favorite actress, but I absolutely adore Cate Blanchett.

Favorite Book:

This is a cheap answer, but it's true - The Chronicles of Narnia - the whole series... Seriously, what an amazing piece of work. After that, it's anyone's guess, but top authors imho would be Brian Jacques, Terry Pratchet...

Three objects I'd want on a deserted island:

1. An iPad (assuming I had all my crazy games and stuff on it)

2. A decent stove!

3. An umbrella - to keep things shady and cool!

I did that when I started playing. My first game was a final 5 with 2 evils (wolf/sorc) and I was the swing vote. I spent all night staying up trying to work through scenarios.

Congrats. How do you come up with your narrative genius? It's hilarious to watch.

Yes, but see, my first game was in May and I still go to bed thinking about these games.. LOL

Thanks for the congrats!

As for narrative genius (which is kind of you to say), I just like to write - a lot. It's always been a passion of mine and one of these days I'd like to actually publish some of the things I've written... lol
