Hi there,

I am currently reading the rules of company breakdowns.

My question is...Why would you break down a division unit (II) in the first place? To cover more ground/hexes? Or isa there something I am not aware of?

Cheers

That would be the most common reason, yes.

As the German player I didn't breakdown units into companies until A)I was defending Cherbourg with the remains of 709 and 243; B) late in the game trying to slow the British push south of Caen during the long dry spells of reinforcements.

I see very little reason to break down Allied units.

When the Allies blow ridiculous holes in your defenses with their naval/air/artillery, and you're scrambling to put together a line, those breakdowns come in pretty handy.

Clearly I'm not as good at defending Normandy as as Tom is.

Also, since engineers can still perform their duties at reduced strength, there's almost no reason NOT to break 'em down one step and get that extra unit.

I am still a newbie but I did submit a post on the subject in the strategy forums here.
