I've just been checking on the rules pertaining to Infantry attacks against an AFV - specifically the Russian OT Halftrack with just MG firepower.

All AFVs NEVER get any defense values from Terrain when being attacked by non-ordnance. Nor can they play Concealment.

So there is no point in playing terrain on your own AFV ?!?!

Conversely, it is a good thing to lay terrain on an opponent's AFV if liable for Bogging !?!?

Am I correct or have I missed something obvious ?

An AFV on a Hill or Wall gets the Hull Down benefit against ordnance attacks. Otherwise, yeah, I would keep it in open terrain. There are also negative (to the AFV) modifiers for terrain when infantry engage in CC against the AFV. So play open terrain on your AFV to prevent your opponent from playing adverse terrain on it.

Thanks - I wasn't mistaken then. I haven't yet played many scenarios with AFVs. Wishing you good sixes in your games to come!

But Defensive TEM does help an AFV vs. AT weapons.

True

Not quite.

Hill gives a +1 modifier on the attack and gives hull down vs. AT ordnance.
Walls also give hull down advantages (i.e. Only Black RNC are good on To Hit attaempts vs. this AFV.)

Yes, definitely a possible use of certain terrains (woods, stream).

Marsh must be rejected by an AFV, so that can force them back.

Thanks Richard - I've never been clear exactly what HULL DOWN status means.
Reading the rules again 28.9 makes no mention of the following part of your comment, viz:-

((i.e. Only Black RNC are good on To Hit attaempts vs. this AFV.)

Otherwise, I'm OK with it all now, and ready to get their tracks moving!

That's because it is mentioned in the ordnance firing rules: 25.31 (Yes, I had to look it up!)
