We almost always only play 2 player games. Does this game shine with two?

I didn't play the game yet, but I read that the game doesn't scale very well with two players...

I have now played the game with 2 players and we liked it a lot. Sure it might be more fun with more players, but we enjoyed it with just two. I'm glad I bought it!

Interesting. With the old edition, I found 4 players better than 3, but never chose Serenissima with only 2 players, as there were better 2-player games around. But I might give it a try with the new edition.

Did the old version have the 2 player game close some ports? The new version has 4 ports closed in a 2 player game. The game was tight, I won 108 to 106. We had so much fun we can't wait to play it again.

No. Instead, the game played 12 rounds with 2 players (10 with 3, 8 rounds with 4), allowing time to roam around all the ports. I believe that closing down ports is a better idea, which indeed should make the game tighter. 12 rounds was maybe stretching the game too much.

Now I am tempted to try it with 2 players.
