My daughter got a very nice chess board for xmas but her existing pieces from cheaper board (2.5" tall pieces, seems to be the smallest standard size) are too big to fit. The squares are 0.75", so pieces that are about 0.3-0.5" wide at the base would be needed.

I can't seem to find any of the suitable size anywhere, they are either all too big or tiny travel-size. Wooden would be preferred but plastic would be fine if they are not bright primary colors. Anyone know of a suitable set?

Search the chess sites for "analysis set". I found this one on USCF Sales which looks good, though piece diameter is not listed you could email them with questions.

In a similar vein, you might check out what Chess Mate has to offer. The pieces for "the Professional" seem like they could be the right size.

While neither of those are quite small enough, doing similar searches has turned up a couple of larger travel sets that I haven't seen before that closely fit the bill.

Thanks!
