My gaming group didn't like the large amounts of money in Fish Cook, so we changed the prices; everything is now about 1/3 of the original.
Each player starts with $35.
Fish cost from $0 to $6.
Toppings cost from $0 to $4.
A face-up recipe costs $2.
A face-down recipe costs $1.
The main values on recipes are from $4 to $15.
The bonuses on recipes are $1 or $2 (you need a "6" to steal).
We've found the bookkeeping is easier this way.
Also, we changed the end-game bonus scoring.
The player(s) with the most recipes in their menu get(s) $5.
Interesting. When we tried it we didn't feel the amounts were too high, though I can see your point. I might try switching to coins rather than paper money as I think it would be easier to handle. I'll have to look into that. Still, any excuse to break out my old Cheapass Money!
