Be Happy in your Game!
I spent 100 Geek Gold and all I got was this lousy overtext message!
You have been robbed and left for dead in the middle of nowhere. Without proper clothes or equipment, you must reach the civilized village before you die from hunger, thirst or exhaustion. But there are wild animals lurking, mountains blocking the way, and a wide variety of unpleasant diseases waiting to invade your body. When you think it cannot possibly get any worse, you feel a taunting raindrop on your cheek…
So that's the official party line from the publishers. I've found it a bit dark when presenting the storyline as a family game so I've come up with my own story that still in line with the cards and mechanics. Now when I teach it, my opening story line is something like this:
The setting is prehistoric times. You have all come of age within your tribe and must pass the tribal initiation in order to be considered worthy and strong enough to receive your official acceptance. Your group has been led out far into the wilderness over the course of many sunrises and sunsets. At the end of the journey, your escort group strips you of your possessions leaving you with nothing but your knowledge of survival skills. Your objective is simple. Make it back to the tribe's village alive. The first one back will receive special honors bestowed by the chief of the village.
So really it's not much different than the publisher's story but I just didn't like the whole "robbed and left for dead" theme.
