Hello fellow BGGers,

My name is Brandon, and I spend my days proofreading master’s theses, term papers, and soon-to-be-published books and articles for the students and professors at a seminary in Tennessee. I have years of experience with this sort of work, and since I enjoy gaming in my spare time, I would love the opportunity to apply this experience to the components, rule book, etc. of your next board game! Let me know if you are interested by replying to this thread or sending me a private message.

Edit #1: Due to the overwhelming response to this thread, I am asking that you temporarily refrain from contacting me about proofreading your game's rules. After I plow through this current pile, I will happily update this thread, letting you know that I'm open for business again.

Thanks for your response!

I approve of this message.

There is very little in this world that annoys me more than seeing mistakes in professionally printed material that should have been caught in the first round of proofreading.

I'm not going to charge a fee for the service. If you feel like giving me a nod in the rules or a copy of the game, I wouldn't turn it down, but I'm offering as a means to contribute to the BGG community and to gain experience working with game designers.

I think you should e-mail Fantasy Flight Games; they could definitely use your help.

Oh, my husband also dreames of doing this. So many questions would/could be answered with proper grammer! Having a proofreader that has never played the game would make the rulebooks so much better.

(Yes, my grammer is horrid, but I know that I do not "write".)

I might have to remember this, I'm trying to design my first game right now. It is currently being beta tested and from there I'm still undecided if I'm going to place it as a free PNP here on BGG (the game uses a lot of cards so creates plenty of printing for the PNP gamer) or if I'm going to try and market it to a publisher.

The designer just sent me a copy of the rules, and I've just started working on it. It looks like a great game!

Hi Brandon,

I have rules for two boardgames that I made which could use some proofreading:

One is "Illuminati Endgame 2012":
http://www.cjgames.com/downloads/Illuminati_Endgame_2012_Rul...

and the other is the "Bitcoin Boardgame":
http://www.cjgames.com/downloads/Bitcoin_Board_Game_Rules.pd...

I would appreciate that very much. Thank you.

I can send you versions of the rules in .doc-format if you would prefer that. PM me for that.

Wow, for me as a non English speaker this would be a great help. I will probably use your help with my next game if you won't be loaded with work.

I already have several takers, so there is a bit of a wait right now. Still, send me the game as soon as you can, and I will take a look at it when I can!

Professional game publishers should pay for editing/ proofreading services.
Too many people confuse the ability to type with the ability to write.

If you do a good job, there is value to your service. You should be charging for it. If you don't, you'll get every wannabe game designer asking you to edit their half-baked rules, rather than working on serious designs.

A "wannabe" game designer who bothers to ask for an editor already has a leg up on a lot of "serious" designers.

I have an idea for the rest of us - why don't we do a buddy system where we trade our rule sets. We read 'em, make suggestions then maybe chat about it.

I would pay closer attention to a rule set knowing m own rule set was getting a nice close look.

Send me a geekmail - I'll read yours, you read mine!
