Steve Thomas posted this on the 18xx YahooGroup:
Consider Version 1.0 of the rules to 18Ardennes, dated 4 October 2010. This
is the version that is available for download from Deep Thought Games's web
Section 3.1 parahraph 2 says, in part, "Distribute f.2,100 to the players as
follows" and what follows is a table showing amounts of money for three,
four, and five players. These amounts are, respectively, f.700, f.575, and
f.420. The middle sum isn't 2100/4.
A version of the table appears on the map, too. In that version, the entry
for four players is f.525.
I checked with David Hecht, the designer, and he wasn't entirely certain
what had been intended. Prior to publication there had been some debate
about increasing the starting capital in the 4-player game to f.2200, to
reflect the likely sale price of the Lux, but the outcome of that debate
was, as far as could be recalled, to leave the starting capital as it was.
f.2300 is certainly too high.
It seems very probable, therefore, that the f.575 in the table is just a
typo, and should read f.525.
