Played the game about a 1/2 dozen times and just had this rule pointed out to me:

Collecting Income: "The banker gives each player an amount of money chips equal to the LESSER of that player's Population and Revenue numbers ($5 to start)."

That is just so counter-intuitive to me since:
1) It's called a Revenue number
2) There's a special card to be paid on the population number

We played the right way last night and it forced several of us repeat players to pay more attention to our population number since before we only had to worry about the special event card and end of game scoring.

At first it seems counter-intuitive, but you can't mke money if you don't have people coming to your hotel. You have to balance between rooms that bring people in, and rooms that bring in the dough.

I suspect the review where somebody claimed population was useless also missed this rule. The rule makes perfect sense to me, because otherwise population would be useless.

I like to think of the $ as your *capacity* to generate money, while the meeple represents your *capacity* to serve/accomodate people. Both are critical to generating income. A casino with 2,000 slot machines will generate a lot less income than one with 1,000 slots and 2 restaurants!

Henry, I really like the explanation of "capacity". It makes a whole lot more sense now shake

Wow! I just read the rules, played a solo 3-player game to get used to the mechanics, and I totally missed this rule! However, I don't think any of the "players" had their $ higher than their meeple. This makes sense, since population starts on 8 and $ on 5.

Also, the player with the highest population at the end of the game gets 5 fame, so I just assumed you wanted to manage both population and $.
