Your party has been traveling together for several days now, but still everyone is strangely silent. Perhaps this is because of the secrecy that surrounds your quest - as far as you know, the Paladin is the only one who knows your purpose.

Just a week ago, you would never have suspected that you would find yourself where you are now - at the foot of the great, snow-capped Irialis Mountains. In fact, you didn't know you were to come here even after the good King summoned you to his audience chamber and bade your assistance in this mysterious mission. Of course you could not refuse him...
The whole of what the King told you at the time was that you were to assist the King's Paladin, Melissa of Ordring, in a dangerous journey of unspeakable intent. Well, some jobs are just harder than others.

Now your party approaches the base of a great cliff, massive and bleak. The earth all around is barren and rocky for quite a distance, and so you can see for miles around. The vast forests to the south offer a distinct contrast to the gray lifelessness that surrounds this place, whatever it is.

And for whatever reason, you realize with a start that this is where you are setting up camp. Your companions are already unhitching the horses and unloading the tents from the wagons. As you look around to see what you can do to help, you notice Melissa and two of the others still on horseback, walking slowly north along the cliff face as if searching for something.

You're still eating dinner when Melissa returns. She looks tired but excited. "We have come to the right place," she announces. Her companions look somewhat sick.

"What is this?" the man behind you asks again. "Why are we moving camp? There is nothing here! The landscape's all the same!"
"I'm not exactly sure either," you reply with forced gentleness. "But haven't you been paying any attention? Melissa found what we were looking for, and it's just a little farther north of here. Obviously, she wants us to spend the night right there."
"But what is it they found? A treasure?"
You grind your teeth in exasperation. "I don't know! But I'm sure the Mod will tell us soon enough."

The second time you set up camp, the shadows are already quite long and dark, and the company is scrambling to set up their tents before the day's last light is gone. The ambient apprehension of nightfall is only worsened by the gaping hole in the rock face near the camp. You can hear your companions' mutterings as they speculate about why the king sent his great paladin to find a hole in the ground.
You try to explain: "Well, technically it's a cave entrance, and it's probably very evil in there (hence the paladin, plus all of us). Additionally, I'd expect that the 'hole' isn't what we're looking for per se, but rather our mission continues into the cave, where we must find some sort of treasure or something."
You get a lot of blank stares. Perhaps it was a rhetorical question.

You head off to your tent and fall asleep.

It seems only minutes later that you wake to calls of alarm. You lurch out of your tent, and into the kind of mass confusion that happens when the main character just got killed. Yes, melissa the Paladin is dead.
You push and shove to see the body, but you cannot reach it in time. The Priest among you has already arranged for the body to be laid into the flames of a bonfire, to be quickly purified of any demonic influence. You ask your companions why, and they reply that she was killed by magic. That's not good.

The flames tower high and bright, lighting up all the surroundings except the gaping black hole in the rock face.
And then they die down again. You stumble back to bed.

It's going to be kind of a problem, fulfilling a mission you don't know. Hopefully someone still knows what's going on.

Some people have asked some questions about items. I will repost the item rules here for everyone's benefit. If you want to read the rest of the rules, follow the link at the top of this thread, to get to the signup thread.
There aren't a lot of rules, but there are a couple important things in them.


The Rules wrote:
Items
There may be some items in the game. Items generally give the bearer an ability. Other possible effects of items would be to change the holder's victory conditions, or to contain information.
Items are passable. If you have an item, you may choose to give it to another player at night. Just tell the moderator (me) who you wish to pass it to; I will tell the recipient they have recieved it. Item passing is the first thing that happens at night. Items can't be used the same night they're passed, unless they have a passive effect.

If a player with an item is lynched, the item is lost and you don't find out about it.
If the killers kill a player with an item, they take the item.

Hello everyone. I'm not sure what side I'm on. How many "sides" are there, anyway? But my only victory condition is this: all killers must die. Presumably by being killed themselves. So I guess I'm good, if somewhat inconsistent morally-wise speaking.
