Dwarf King and The Hobbit have definitely soured my taste for these simple little card games. Reviews dont seem to show Shadows Over Camelot being any better.

Perhaps this isnt the place for it, but has anyone been won over by any recent games in this category? Or even a glowing review for Shadows would be fine. Im not dying for more fillers in my collection, but Im curious to see if theres been any great ones ive missed lately.

Card games bearing the same name as their board game parent have been uniformly disappointing.
With the exception of Keltis: Das Kartenspiel as the board game is based on a card game.

Don't a lot of people (not everyone, of course) prefer Caylus Magna Carta over the original Caylus, for example, due to shorter playing time, ease of teaching, greater portability, lower cost, and lower storage space requirements, while still retaining a sufficient (or even preferrable) amount of depth? I haven't played either version but bought CMG after reading TONS of reviews on both. There must be other similar board:card game relationships...

I cant thnk of many examples of full sized games with card game counter-parts, but I did enjoy Monopoly Deal Card Game more than Monopoly. Thats really not saying much though...

I thought the "Catan Card Game" was a fun 2-player experience, possibly more fun than Catan proper. But then again I got sick of Catan, so maybe it's just relative.

San juan as a version of Puerto Rico was fantastic. Its one of my favorites, well implemented, in hardcopy or iOS form. its a good game in its own right, not just flavored with the theme of the main game.

My game club also was quite favored of the Ticket to Ride card game, though I was not personally as thrilled with it.

I also find Catan Dice a fun, light game--- yatzee with sheep, I call it.
