I know I'd like to see one. We are getting ready to move and I'd like to somehow cull my collection and get rid of the games I know won't get played.

I'm considering moderating one, unless someone with experience doing one would like to step up to the plate... Any takers? whistle

Guess I just want to gauge the demand since I know there were two back to back in January. People might still be playing their new games. Plus, shipping costs went up since the last one.

I suspect there's always a demand. I'm going to look into what it would take to moderate. Scares me a little though...

I'm in And with my last auction just ending, I still have a 100 games I can put up
I've debated moderating in the past...but my life's too busy too take the risk of it becoming a time drain. If you do it though, I'd be psyched

One veteran moderator suggested putting some kind of limits on your first trade, because "really big" trades apparently are quite a bit more work. US-only wouldn't be limiting enough. It could be some kind of theme, or maybe "no non-game items (except GC/GG)", or "N per person", or whatever. On the one hand, I hate limiting the trade artificially because usually more items = more trades. But his logic did make sense.

I plan to run a local no-ship MT first to see how moderating goes. After that, I might take on a big open trade. I have already downloaded and run trademax on a bunch of real MT wantlists, so I know that part is no problem. It's the social/policing/parenting aspect that is more daunting.

As for your original question, I probably wouldn't be able to participate in one before the end of this month, but don't let that stop you from doing one sooner if you want to!

I am considering a foray into moderating a math trade. Is there a link to a guide for first time moderators on both running a math trade and on the tools? I searched around a little but what I stumbled across seemed pretty out dated..

I'd start with the wiki page

OLWLG For Organizers

from this one are links to TradeMaximizer wiki, the math trade organizers guild, and the OLWLG for organizers discussion thread.

you should already know how and have run some trademax (you can use the WANTS from a completed math trade).

it's really recommended to that the 1st MT you organize be a smaller, probably a local no-ship math trade, before trying to organize a multi-thousand item math trade (especially since there have been some problems with the BGG XML API when it comes to such geeklists).

edit: looks like Kevin hit submit before I did

I would certainly be interested. I was looking for one about two weeks ago only to see that I had already missed two from January.

Thanks for the info Jeff...

I am wondering what would be good "limiters" in keeping it a small math trade?

Seems like there was a Valentine's Day one in previous years but I'd have to go check... Certainly someone wants to come along and run a math trade.

keeping it short and sweet helps... I've run several in the past that were 2 to 3 day math trades... ie. from announcement/opening the geeklist, to results... such as 24 hours for "offers", then somewhere between 24-48 hours for want lists to be submitted. that plus USA only as someone suggested would help keep it to a semi-manageable size (though not as good as a local no-ship one)

No. Nobody wants another MT. We are all tired of Math Trades and there would probably be zero games offered.

* Short time frame.
* Limited number of items per person (e.g., max of three, or max of five).
* Limited shipping (e.g., US only).
* Games and GG only.

I don't recommend limiting by value, as that's too much work to police it.

I do recommend disallowing Gift Certificates for your first trade, as there can be hassles with arbitrage.

Edit: And yes, of course, I'd be up for a math trade!

**US Only
**3 days : add item time / 2 day want list submitting
**Only Board games (no CG, GG, or other non-games)

Jeff (of OLWLG fame) requests that all MT's allow GG. From the OLWLG page:
Quote:
not a restriction just yet but this trend toward MT's not allowing Geek Gold offerings, and given that GG is the only means I'm rewarded (via GG tips) for all the hard work in supporting and developing (new features) the OLWLG, in the future the OLWLG may not support any MT with such an arbitrary restriction (GG has proven time and again to help more non-GG's to trade, it's not GG arbitrage).

I haven't had the time this weekend to really devote to it as we are painting our house. If someone else doesn't run one soon I'm going to though...

You have my props for getting into organizing math trades.
That said, every part of me is sad to see another US-only one go by. It feels like forever since an international one was available (barring the wargaming one, but that's a tad specific to be of general use).

Mmmm, whatever you do, good luck.
