Kate's ability doesn't care when you host the card on Personal Workshop, because you're not installing it. It doesn't reduce the printed cost at that time.

When you do eventually install the hosted card, this is when Kate's ability would kick in, except you're ignoring the cost of the card.

Kate is now worthless because of this card.

This card is Shell Traders from the original game, but at a cost of 1 instead of 0.

Its broken as hell. Put all your stuff into play, then stimhack for a run, use the money to buy the icebreaker you need, and some other stuff. Super broken.



Without this, Kate and Chaos theory were both interesting and different imo. However, this card is SOOO powerful, and doesnt work together with kate, making Chaos Theory the clear choice.

I agree with Mr. B. You install something, Kate's ability's trigger. It reduces the cost by 0 but Personal Workshop ignores it. Kate's ability is wasted.

And the trick will be to pay a Credit for the final counter after installing something else.

The short answer is that no, her ability does not combo with Personal Workshop. Once you install a card onto Personal Workshop you are committed to bringing it online via its power counters. (You can't for instance be able to install something for free once it only has 1 power counter on it. You either need to wait till the next turn to remove 1 power counter from it for free or pay 1 credit from your supply to install it).

Keep in mind that even if you have multiple cards hosted on Personal Workshop only 1 of them will have a power counter removed each time your turns begin (not 1 from each hosted card). Also, since PW is a resource it is a prime target for the Corp to trash if you become tagged, so that's something to keep in mind as well.

This is also different from shell traders I that multiples don't stack to pay off a single layaway card quicker. With a 3 card limit and no stacking, this isn't as powerful as old one in accelerating a single card out while still being really awesome.

Not just 1 credit a turn, but installing instantly has great tricks...
Stimhack plus this is really great, since you can install programs and hardware with the "run" bits. Or put out multiple breaker types into workshop early and run blind, installing one as needed but not having to pay up front for both, allowing you to be more aggressive.

Kate is indeed a nonbo on a turn this installs something, but many turns you won't finish a card and it's easy to play around it most of the time to still get benefit from Kate and this. The tension on shaper economy cards is interesting for deck building synergy. If you host an expensive card on the workshop, you can't later use a modded to get it out quicker is also something to consider.

Public sympathy is not an auto 3 of at all.

Emergency shutdown is good, but you're already incented to guard hq, especially vs criminal. But yes, it can really turn some boards states around late game if it goes off.

Feels like the meta may see shift from scorched vs anti-scorch to tagging vs power resources...? Or at least co-exist, as they do overlap by quite a bit.

Then watch as the corp plays breaking news/posted bounty/sea source and trashes it along with everything hosted on it.

I mean, it's a very cool card, but there are answers for it.

You can use it to install cards on your opponents turn as a paid ability.

If only resource trashing existed, then maybe corps could combat this card...

In all seriousness, this is nonsense and a huge overreaction, because Kate can use the Workshop too as a credit accelerator (kind of like a PAD campaign for runners.) Kate's discount still applies for her first true installation per turn, and traditional installation is still preferable for programs that are better when they surprise the corp by being installed from your hand, like Medium, Sneakdoor, Femme, or even the right icebreaker if the corp gets too comfortable. Also, most econ hardware (or programs, like MO) are worth installing and putting them to work immediately, such as rabbit holes, most consoles, and cyberfeeders. To replicate Kate's discount, you need to wait a turn before installing from the Workshop, and the Corp can see it coming. It's definitely a good card, but hardly invalidates an entire ID.
