So when I got OTB in 2011, I tried to make a super-hard variant of Pandemic, where all diseases had to be eradicated to win, but you would shuffle in all the special event cards (gives you a few more turns to do it). In case you were wondering that was a grand success in that it was super hard, but a miserable failure in that it pretty well isn't possible.

But the good news is that I did make two new roles and three new special events with the blank cards from OTB in my attempt. I decided to post them now since the new printing has its own QS that I've seen several people comment is too OP, so I wonder if people would think mine was or not.

ROLES
Quarantine Specialist
-If the infection card of the city you are in is drawn, discard and ignore it.
-When you enter a city with exactly one cube, you may treat it for free.
(admittedly I took the second power from another role suggested on BGG, don't want to plagiarize that this idea was mine, but I don't remember the role anymore, maybe pharmacist?)

Rapid Responder
-You may drive/ferry a distance of one or 2 cities for 1 action
-Once per turn (on your turn only), you may move to a city that has suffered an outbreak since your last turn for 1 action.

EVENTS
Quarantine Zones
-No outbreaks occur during the next infection phase. If an infection card drawn would cause an outbreak, ignore and discard it. The infection phase is otherwise completed as normal.

Pathogenic Remission
-Move the infection rate counter back 1 space. Play at anytime the Infection Rate is 3 or more. May be played as soon as the infection counter reaches 3, prior to the beginning of the infection phase.

Logistics Network Complete
-The current player may turn in 3 cards of the same color as a cured disease to completely eradicate that disease from the game. (Only 1 disease may be eradicated in this way).

I would certainly reword a few now in light of the better wording on some of the reprint cards, but wanted to be true to what I originally made. I felt the cards were balanced, if a bit on the strong side. I can say with many plays, they certainly do not guarantee success.

So what do you think? I can get into my own thinking if anyone actually cares to respond with their thoughts.

EDIT: Clearly I should have read more of the variants forum as my roles are similar (though not identical) to others that have been posted. Still very few event cards posted so hopefully those will be interesting to people.

Interesting, looks like these could work.

Just to note:

is pretty similar to the role "Quarantine Specialist", which is a new role in Pandemic 2nd Edition.

I suspect that the designer of the 2nd edition must have based the role on the same fan-made role that you are basing yours on. (Good choice, though. Apparently it's a pretty good role, if it is making its way into the official game.)

I only based the second power on one I found here (which did not make it into the official card). The power similar to the one that made it into the game, I came up with on my own, though clearly it was obvious enough that some others (and now Matt) came up with similar ideas.

I know several people have commented elsewhere that they think the ability to protect your city as well as all connecting cities, on the official Quarantine Specialist is too powerful. My version only protects your own city, so is weaker there, but adds the weak medic power from the role I saw on here. I was wondering if people thought mine was a better idea or still too OP compared to the new card.

I'd also lover to hear thoughts on the events.
