No way can they be 100% objective nor perfect credit or absolute certainty of historical facts.

Just give it up already!

How can we trust the review?

Our individual prejudices, messed up knowledge and learning and limited brain wattage bring our own tastes and abilities to the games; a review by another can be of no value.

Often is - have suspected for a long time that reviews are just really reports on the quality, accuracy, feel and mechanics of a game system designed to help educate a potential buyer and opponent. What possible use COULD THAT BE?/!?!?!?

What I learned in English class in High School:

1.Objective and subjective statements are used by writers to get their points across.
2.Objective statements are facts that can be verified by third parties while subjective statements may or may not be entirely true as they are colored by the opinions of the speaker.

For boardgame reviews, I would add:

3. Read more reviews from the said speaker/writer to see if his subjective tastes in games correlates with your views. Paid more attention to those that do and paid less or no attention to those that consistently don't.

Simple.

My favorite 18xx game for six players is two games of 1846 with three players each.

Trust is not a meaningful concept.

Should reviews that go against my opinions that are unable to sufficiently sway my opinion occur - NO!

I seldom watch a review that I don't comment on. It's a great way to
open discussion.
