Subject: Games for two - short and not too "geeky" rss

Looking for games for me and my girl. They don't have to be exclusively two-player but as it goes most games that are 2+ don't work as well with only 2.

Games we like:
Settlers of Catan, though the card game is a bit bland.
Lost Cities. She is more numbers oriented so it's more her thing than mine.
Dominion

I love Magic the Gathering. The "nerdiness" of it makes her deny any attempts of getting her to play it, though I would love it if she did.

Any suggestions?

Backgammon
Cribbage

There are reasons why some games become timeless classics.

Agricola: All Creatures Big and Small is our favorite 2 player game. It packs quite a lot of strategy into a 30 minute package.

Roma - an interesting compromise that has dice and the accumulation of resources (or okay, just money) like Settlers, but has custom cards whose powers you try to abuse like Magic. And not as "geeky".

Seasons. This is for 2-4, but plays best with 2.

Based on the other games you like, I think you would like
Battle Line

If it is just the nerdiness of the Magic: The Gathering universe that turns her off, you might want to try one of FFG's LCGs (Game of Thrones, Lord of the Rings). They may still be based on nerdy properties, but at least they're more mainstream nerdy properties than M:tG.

Hive Pocket gets a lot of play with our non gamer friends, as does, Tsuro, Forbidden Island, Gloom and Family Business.

I agree with Jaipur and Morels. Would add Jambo, and Battle Line.

Fjords is good too, but is getting but harder to find a copy. Hopefully it will get a reprint.

Finally, Forbidden Island is a cooperative game that plays well with 2.

Rune Age good one, especially with expansion. A lot of people like it. Card game with scenarios.

Thunderstone Advance: Towers of Ruin similar to Dominion, but with fantasy theme and varied goals.

Wow, those are at opposite ends of the complexity scale.
Both are very good games though.
