I see a lot of Train games that involve setting up routes and taking commodities from one area to another in order to generate income. I am obviously simplify the mechanics a bit but I think you will understand what I mean.

I am looking for similiar games that involve ship trading. I am thinking of something preferably set in the age of sail where you try to manage a trading company.

Can anyone think of something that might closely fit the bill?

That's weird. This bit used to mention Shire Games, and tell you all how wonderful we are. But it seems to have got deleted. Let's see what happens this time ....

Wow!

I appreciate the assistance. I tried doing a search on my own but I haven't mastered the advanced search yet I guess. Maybe there is a tutorial or something I can look at.

I will take a look at these. Thanks again.

Look at the right hand menu. Go down to "Browse" and click "Category". Here you can click on "Transportation" and/or "Nautical"

Or you can click on the link "Mechanics" and choose "Pick-up and deliver"

There are many many games on your subject.

Ben,
Take a look at Tai-Pan. I think it is just what you're looking for.

From what I can see looking over the offered links, KOGGE, TAI-PAN, and SERENISSIMA are pretty much the ones that really hit the stated theme, and of course, none arein print. OTOH, SERENISSIMA was allegedly scheduled for a reprint sometime in the upcoming year...

You might want to check out Clippers as well

http://www.boardgamegeek.com/game/3128

It's building clipper ship routes in the Pacific. Check out the reviews though, I understand there are problems with the game components. Still it's similar to Santa Fe Rails, the game play should be very good.

Try 'Ostindiska Kompaniet' http://www.boardgamegeek.com/game/281 it's on the longish side, but then you do get to sail all the way from Europe to the Orient and back a few times and that takes a while.

Or, more recently, VOC! had a similar theme. http://www.boardgamegeek.com/game/4323

Not much actual sailing, unlike the other games, but The Merchants of Amsterdam http://www.boardgamegeek.com/game/531 is the right theme and period and a very good game to boot.
