Can you win by placing the fives belonging to each of your colors on a single grill or do you have to use at least one opponent's card? The rules seem ambiguous because in the four player game this is a non-issue. So there are explicit statements that (a) you can win with two 5's, (b) but an opponent's pot must be one of the first 3 you play and (c) you need to play an opponent's pots because your own provide a total of only 9 points.

Sue,
It sounds like you are playing with two colors each. You should each have just one color, but the two colors in play must be opposite each other on the board. So if your opponent plays blue, then you play yellow. If your opponent plays green, then you play purple.
