When you cut a piece of your flesh off.

It is not a laceration or a cut when you get to the ER. It is an avulsion.

Fingertip. Right hand ring finger. Mandolin Slicer.

I did something like this before, went through the nail, but not all the way through. They used medical superglue to glue the tip of my finger back on...

Removed the tip of my left index finger peeling a carrot when I was a kid. I remember exactly what it looked like - and now I know the name for it. Good luck with healing.

Not meant to be a substitute for a medical evaluation but typically if you avulse less than a square centimeter of skin the only treatment is to control the bleeding and bandage it. Much more than a square cm and a graft may be indicated.

Quote:
A large proportion of amputees (50–80%) experience the phenomenon of phantom limbs; they feel body parts that are no longer there. These limbs can itch, ache, burn, feel tense, dry or wet, locked in or trapped or they can feel as if they are moving. Some scientists believe it has to do with a kind of neural map that the brain has of the body, which sends information to the rest of the brain about limbs regardless of their existence. Phantom sensations and phantom pain may also occur after the removal of body parts other than the limbs, e.g. after amputation of the breast, extraction of a tooth (phantom tooth pain) or removal of an eye (phantom eye syndrome).

MANDOLIN SLICER?

How does this differ from a Ukulele slicer?

Does Peter Buck know about this?

Makes great waffle fries, julienne fries, shredded carrots, cabbage slaw, thin slice potatoes and finger tips. Makes a great gift!

It's fun, it's healthy, it's good exercise. The kids will just love it. And we put a little sand inside to make the experience more pleasant.

My mandolin slicer has yet to take some of me, but every time I put it away I swear I hear a "sigh."

It just lays in wait.

One of my service techs and guitar buddies has avulved the tip of his left hand middle finger, his fretting hand, twice since I've known him. Both times he drove himself to the ER and had it reattached.
