Work on making money and buy boardgames on my own and not have to rely on somebody else to buy the game for me. I make 18 nis by the hour and I work 6 hours, 5 days a week. A new decent boardgame from FFG or Avalon Hill will cost somewhere between 300-400 nis in my FLGS . Would I even be able to afford a new game on my salery?

I can tell you I would have very few games if they each cost me 15-20 working hours to acquire. Any game groups around you?

Nis? Never heard of that currency. Is it the acronym for Israeli Shekel?

edit : New Israeli Shekel.

You're being underpaid, minimum wage in Israel is 4300 Nis/month.

This! In Italy, FFG games costed me 3-5 hours of work, depending wether salaried or private teaching.

In the US, with OLGS, they cost me even less.

Of course, it's your money, so it's up to you to decide how many games you want to buy, but really, for those prices, I would probably just stick to other hobbies. OR just be lucky and find ONE game I can play over and over again.

Best luck

It is impossible to answer this question since we don't know how much you pay for food, rent, transportation...

Congratulations on getting a full-time job, Isaac! Be sure to work with whoever has been helping you with budgeting to make sure you buy board games in a reasonable way.

You may find that you don't want as many board games as you used to since you're working and have less time, so you can save up and get the ones you REALLY want and not worry about the rest.

(Just a joke, Isaac. Congratulations on finding full-time employment!)

Interesting. I haven't really been thinking about cost in hours
of work. It really highlights comparisons. I can remember being
poor and performing manual labor - where a new game would cost me
a couple of hours of work; now, I make supposedly good wages, but
a new game doesn't cost that much less in hours.

Of course, I have a lot more disposable income, but damn,
the price of these things has gone gone up a lot faster
than many items.
